The Department of Communication Studies is pleased to announce the arrival of Christian Sandvig as the newest member of our faculty. Professor Sandvig comes to us from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he taught classes within Communication, Media & Cinema Studies and Library & Information Science. He is a researcher specializing in communication technology and public policy.
Sandvig completed his education on the west coast, earning his BA summa cum laude from the University of California-Davis along with his master’s and doctoral degrees from Stanford University. Upon completion of his dissertation, Sandvig served as a 2001-2002 Markle Foundation Information Policy Fellow at the Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy at Oxford University. Sandvig has received numerous awards from the academic community – in addition to winning several best paper awards, he was named a “next-generation leader in science and technology” in a junior faculty competition organized by the American Association for the Advancement in Science. Sandvig has been a visiting scholar at several institutions, including McGill University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Sandvig stays active in the information realm, keeping active with blog and article posts for outlets like the Huffington Post and his own personal blog. Most recently, Sandvig has been documenting his first few days in Ann Arbor where he has been paid numerous visits from the friendly wildlife.
We are very fortunate to add Christian Sandvig to the Department of Communication Studies. Keep an eye out for classes that incorporate his research interests in communication technology, human-computer interaction, and public policy in the coming semesters.
